The Guild O-Day Festival is one of the largest events organised by the UWA Student Guild for new students. There is a hive of activity with Guild Clubs and Faculty Societies, sporting groups and other community groups all providing information and displays to raise awareness about their programs and the opportunities available to students.
The UWA International Law Club provides a forum for a wide range of students interested in the world and how it operates, to come together and promote the field of international law in our university community. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved.

What really happens to your data when you sign up for Facebook?
Mark Zuckerberg is becoming a household name as the recent privacy scandal reveals 1 in 50 Australian Facebook users and 1 in 3 American users, had their data shared with British political consulting agency, Cambridge Analytica. This data was allegedly used to influence the 2016 US election campaign.
Facebook has made changes. It has promised to share less information with third parties and investigate apps which have extensive access to user information. But do these changes go far enough?
The EU has responded with a set of ‘breakthrough’ new privacy laws. Under Europe’s General Data Protection Regulations, users can obtain any data a company has collected about them through a ‘data subject request’. If a user chooses to exercise their right to be ‘forgotten’, in other words withdraw consent for their data to be collected, companies such as Facebook must delete all data relating to that person. In fact, they can only collect such data in the first place if there is a specific business purpose for it. No longer will signing up mean giving away your personal data.
Are these laws necessary? Should Australia and the US follow suit? Come have your say 🔥 🇦🇺 🇺🇸
